From vet to artist and the inbetween
Evie Silver is a Tasmanian artist whose work is deeply inspired by the wild beauty that surrounds her. Exploring a range of mediums, she found her passion in metalworking in late 2022 and hasn’t looked back. Her creative practice centres on creating characterful representations of Tasmanian wildlife in corten steel, custom sculptures and art for the garden.
Evie is drawn to the contrast between delicate natural forms and the raw strength of steel. Her work often brings together corten with ceramics, stained glass, and wood—materials that echo the textures and colours of the natural world.
With a background as a veterinarian and a role at Bonorong Wildlife Hospital, Evie’s art is grounded in real-life encounters with Tasmania’s unique fauna. Her clinical work allows her to observe these animals up close—from wedge-tailed eagles to tiger snakes and even a 1.4-gram metallic cool-skink named Lazza—giving her sculptures an authenticity and personality that comes from experience.
Each piece is crafted from corten steel, a material that forms a rich, rust-coloured patina as it weathers. This surface evolves over time, shifting from a bright orange to deeper, mottled tones—mirroring the ever-changing natural landscapes that inspire her. The artworks are cut using both plasma and laser techniques, blending precision with a handcrafted touch.
Evie’s workshop is located just outside New Norfolk, and her work is regularly available at her stall at Salamanca Market most Saturdays in Hobart.
